How Easily Can Public Opinion Be Manipulated During Elections?

Last Saturday, at H.A.N.A Youth Center, we held the second session of our training series under the SeeCheck Project, focusing on Disinformation and Misinformation During Election Periods. The session was led by two well-known journalists, Esiona Konomi and Osman Stafa, who provided valuable insights into the ways information can be distorted to influence public opinion.

Key Topics Discussed:

  • Disinformation and Misinformation – Understanding their differences and how they are strategically used to manipulate elections.
  • Manipulated Videos and News – Exploring AI-generated content, deepfake videos, and how false narratives are created.
  • Social Media as a Political Weapon – Analyzing the role of satire pages, trolls, and coordinated campaigns in shaping voter behavior.
  • Local vs. National Media – Examining why smaller media outlets are more vulnerable to political influence and how to develop critical news consumption skills.
  • TikTok: Risk or Free Speech? – Debating whether blocking the platform serves as a protective measure or a tool for political control.

The session sparked critical discussions and helped participants recognize the importance of verifying information before believing and sharing it. In an era where fake news spreads faster than facts, media literacy is crucial for informed decision-making, especially during elections.

Stay engaged, stay informed, and be part of the movement against disinformation.

These trainings are part of the program “Youth for Truth – Media Literacy to Combat Electoral Misinformation in Lezhë”, supported by the See Check Network and funded by the European Union.
