This session was the official start point of the debate tournament element within the winter school program.

In these tournament-style activities, 32 young participants from “Hydajet Lezha” High School took part, divided into 8 teams. The debates followed the World Schools Debate format, addressing topics related to the rule of law, free and ethical media, and human rights.

This stage of the program aimed to develop the critical and analytical skills of the participants, with a special focus on their ability to argue and defend their views, as well as to listen to and understand different perspectives.

During the first day of the debate tournament phase, as part of the winter school program “EU Integration and the Role of Youth in this Process,” two significant matchups were held between four teams from “Hydajet Lezha” High School. The participants debated resolutions that addressed essential issues related to the rule of law, free media, and human rights.

– Team “Area 51” vs. Team “Boss”
– Team “Girls Only” vs. Team “Njëshat”

Debate Resolutions:
– “The main problem with the lack of justice for victims of violence in Albania (women and other marginalized groups) is inadequate laws and an inefficient justice system.”
– “SPAK should compel those convicted of high-level corruption to return the verified stolen funds, in addition to confiscating their assets derived from crime and illegal activities.”

The debates on the first day were observed and evaluated by:
– Prof. Jetmir Shtjefni – Head of the IT Department at “Kolin Gjoka” Vocational High School
– Ms. Nertila Kolmarkaj – Coordinator at “Terre des Hommes,” Lezhë
– Mr. Frederik Pjetri – Entrepreneur, co-manager of “Colors of Zadrima”

The jury members provided an impartial and professional assessment for all teams, highlighting the strength of their arguments and critical skills. They also offered motivational words to the youth, encouraging them to continue engaging in activities that develop critical thinking and debate skills.

In the second round of this tournament, Team “Boss” and Team “Njëshat” advanced.
