Broadcasting straight from our candle-lit studio – because yes, medieval romance is all the rage around here – we bring you the latest update on our slow and steady march toward the European Union by 2030… you know, where lights don’t take unexpected vacations like they do in the villages of Lezhë Municipality.
Here, we’ve got that charming vintage infrastructure vibe – copper wires dancing in the breeze like patriotic flags, and electric poles with a permanent scoliosis twist, striking dramatic tango poses with every gust of wind.
We all dream of that warm EU embrace, but in places like Rrila, Ishull Lezhë, Markatomaj, Pllanë, Barbullojë, and Zejmen – just five minutes away from the city – POOF, the lights disappear on rotation, winter and summer alike. A drop of rain, a sneeze of wind, or even a normal sunny day can send our electric network into full existential crisis mode.
And what about OSHEE, with all those billions borrowed from the state, the EBRD, and the EU? Well, according to their own engineers, “it costs less to patch things up than to rebuild from scratch.” Economical, aren’t they? Every penny counts! But when it comes to billing… oh, they’re like Swiss clocks – right on time every month, and now with the added convenience of online payment options. The power itself, though? Offline. Apparently, our grid is a bit allergic to weather.
Thankfully, we’re not in the U.S., where hurricanes go full beast mode. Small wins, right?
And the municipality? Oh no, don’t get confused… their job is to help you get a job at OSHEE, not to handle complaints about power outages. “Not our responsibility,” as they say.
