Spaç is not just a place—it is a living testimony to the crimes of a regime that imprisoned free thought and silenced dissent.
Within its walls, intellectuals, young people, and ordinary citizens who dared to think differently during Albania’s communist dictatorship were violently suppressed and locked away. Their stories are not only part of our history—they are warnings to the future.
As part of the ongoing efforts by the H.A.N.A Center to confront the past and acknowledge the crimes of the communist regime, we return to one of the most urgent causes of today: a deeper understanding of the symbolic importance of Spaç Prison, and the critical need to preserve its authenticity. We strongly oppose any attempts to erase or distort this history.
The event we organized brought public attention to the importance of education and awareness about what Spaç represents. It included direct testimonies from former political prisoners, open exchanges of thoughts among participants, and a discussion about the Ministry of Culture’s proposed project involving interventions at the site.
The younger generations must know the truth.
Education about the past is essential to ensure that it is not repeated.
Spaç must be preserved as a site of memory—not altered or erased from our collective conscience.
Do not allow history to be silenced.
Preserve Spaç as it was—a symbol of pain that today serves as a lesson, and a remembrance.
