Info

In this session of the Web & Graphic Design course, participants explored the basics of masking in Photoshop and the fundamentals of typographic design – two essential skills for creating polished, professional graphic projects. Students learned how to work with Layer Masks, which allow you to hide or reveal specific parts of a layer, and Clipping Masks, which confine the visibility of one layer based on the shape of the layer beneath it. These tools are foundational for clean, non-destructive editing.

The session continued with an introduction to typography. Participants learned the difference between Point Text and Paragraph Text, along with key text-formatting techniques used in digital design. They also explored simple but widely used text effects such as Drop Shadow, Stroke, Gradient Overlay, and Warp Text for creating curved and stylized lettering. Students were introduced to several powerful image-editing tools including the Blur Tool, Sharpen Tool, Smudge Tool, and Dodge Tool, which help soften edges, enhance details, or brighten specific areas of an image.

At the end of the session, participants applied what they learned by creating designs that combined masks, text, and images – practicing essential techniques for manipulating details and achieving visually compelling results.
