The first workshop of the second edition of the “Anti-Corruption – Electoral Integrity” hackathon marked an important step for young participants in identifying and developing their initial ideas for innovative prototypes aimed at tackling electoral corruption.
During the session, the participants were guided in analyzing key electoral integrity challenges, including vote manipulation, vote buying, lack of transparency in vote counting, voter list tampering, and the impact of disinformation during electoral campaigns. These issues were recognized as major threats to democracy, highlighting the urgent need for sustainable and effective solutions.
Following this discussion, participants presented their initial ideas, which included the development of an educational platform to inform citizens about electoral processes and their rights, awareness-raising videos designed to engage the public through compelling storytelling, a web or mobile application enabling real-time reporting of electoral violations, and a podcast featuring discussions with experts, citizens, and activists on the importance of free and fair elections.
The expert provided valuable insights on how to refine these ideas, emphasizing the importance of integrating security and verification mechanisms into digital platforms, using storytelling techniques to create a stronger emotional impact, and developing strategies to make reporting electoral violations more accessible and secure for citizens.
As the hackathon progresses, participants will continue working on their prototypes, focusing on technical development and practical implementation. The next session will be dedicated to building and testing the initial models, allowing teams to refine their solutions and enhance their impact.
This collaborative and innovative process not only equips young people with the skills to develop concrete solutions for a pressing social issue but also fosters critical thinking, technological literacy, and civic engagement, empowering them to actively contribute to democratic processes with integrity and transparency.
