We gathered in the social corner to watch and then to voice our perspectives on the documentary “Feminist in Cell Y”. The documentary is about a group of prisoners and their battle with the boundaries of male norms, toxic masculinity and the culture of patriarchy in the way they have grown up! Although in different geographical circumstances, we discussed how the same camouflaged pressures as expectations and norms of behavior from family and social circle, are exerted on boys and men in Albania. And because this gender is expected to mask feelings of fragility with “strong” behavior and lack of emotion, in return, we nurture gender inequalities in a vicious circle. The event was made possible by Dorela Lazaj and her team on The Dordolet’s Podcast who decided to hold this event at H.A.N.A Youth Center as part of their project “Strengthening the Albanian Democracy & Political Diversity in it’s own Voices”.
