Itinerary of the Public Money – Youth Reports – Newsroom Club #10

Info

Independent journalism thrives on facts, accountability, and a commitment to truth. That is precisely what the young members of the Newsroom Club are striving for as they transition from research to action. After laying the groundwork by identifying key community issues, they have now moved forward with interviews and data collection to bring evidence-based stories to light.

To ensure their articles reflect real challenges and opportunities within the community, the participants have started engaging with institutional representatives and experts. Their focus is on gathering first-hand information on three crucial topics:

  • Youth investments – Investigating what policies and funding exist to support young people and whether these resources are effectively reaching those who need them.
  • The use of technology for transparency – Exploring how digital tools and open data can enhance accountability and citizen engagement in governance.
  • Citizen participation in decision-making – Assessing the extent to which young people and the broader public can influence policy-making and what barriers exist to meaningful engagement.

Conducting interviews and gathering verified information is an essential step in ensuring that their journalistic work is not just based on opinions but backed by reliable sources. Through these efforts, young journalists are not only learning investigative techniques but also gaining a deeper understanding of how institutions function and how civic participation can drive change.

With the research phase nearly complete, the participants will now focus on analyzing their collected data, structuring their findings into well-articulated articles, and preparing their final reports for publication. Their work aims to go beyond informing the public—it seeks to ignite discussions, promote civic awareness, and encourage transparency in governance.

The Newsroom Club is proof that young people are not just passive observers in society; they are active participants shaping the future of media and civic engagement. Their journalism is a powerful tool to inspire change.

This intervention is supported by the BAT Monitor Program (Budget Accountability and Transparency), implemented by the Institute for Democracy and Mediation (IDM) and funded by the European Union .
