Each EU country has its own culture, language(s) and traditions. Nevertheless they all share the same common values which they must respect if they want to be part of the European Union. One fundamental value that unites all the Member States is democracy. The other values of the EU that are common to all Member States are human dignity, freedom, equality, the rule of law and respect for human rights, including the rights of people belonging to minority groups.
This time we had as an expert of the field and lecturer Alba Brojka, a researcher of political science, who has served in many youth and civil initiatives in Albania and abroad, and who shared with us her experience and knowledge on the topic. We learned from her “What is the EU?” Starting from the history of creation, to the purpose and the member countries that are part of it until today.
An interactive session, with educational games, that sparked enthusiasm and competition among young debaters, learning in a different way about EU values and what it means for them to feel European.
In this session the 40 youth present managed to get to the basics of what it means to be a European citizen.
