Journalism is not always fascinating or fancy. It is not always happy or exciting. It is real, difficult and emotional. But whatever the situation, journalism becomes a powerful force in culture when it gains some kind of authority over the present, convincing us that what is happening “out there” on the horizon of our personal experience must be pursued.
