Simulation Game – European Parliament – The Winter School “Integration in the EU and the Role of Youth in this Process” – 5th Edition

Info

As part of the winter school, the youth participated in a special activity through the Simulation Game of the European Parliament. This game aimed to place participants in the role of MEPs, enabling them to experience firsthand the functioning of the European Parliament and its complex decision-making processes.

Through this simulation, the youth had the opportunity to gain in-depth knowledge about the workings of the European Parliament. They became familiar with the complexities of decision-making, the role of communication, and the importance of this institution’s impact on the lives of EU citizens. The activity provided a dynamic and inclusive approach, helping the youth develop basic skills and enhance their understanding of democratic principles. Additionally, the participants learned how to become active, informed, and responsible citizens in an increasingly interconnected world.

During the simulation, the participants were divided into political groups representing parties in the European Parliament and were involved in committees covering various fields such as the environment, security, social and foreign affairs. These issues were treated seriously, and the corresponding discussions were conducted in the plenary sessions of the parliament, where each participant had a specific role.

In June of this year, the European elections will be held to determine the new representatives in the European Parliament, which is the only transnational assembly in the world directly elected. These representatives will represent the interests of EU citizens and will have the power to decide on new legislation, vote on new trade agreements, and monitor EU institutions to ensure that taxpayers’ money is spent efficiently.

Ultimately, this simulation served as a valuable experience for the youth, emphasizing the importance of understanding the role of the European Parliament and the responsibilities that come with participating in this process. This understanding is essential for the youth who, in the future, will be ready to vote and influence the selection of their representatives.
